About us

The Home of Refuge for the Poor is a registered, voluntary, non-profit, and charity organization rendering humanitarian and social services in Africa; managed by the Franciscan Friars congregation of Nigeria for the Poor. It is dedicated to caring for, and meeting the needs of the poorest of the poor. We provide support for the orphans, the under privileged, the widows, the drug addicts, the abandoned, the elderly, the terminally ill, the street children, the physically challenged, and persons living with the HIV in Africa. We live in, and also go into poor/impoverished neighborhoods and communities, running shelters for the homeless, providing free accommodation, free food, medical care, payment of tuition fees, and vocational training etc.  The Home of Refuge for the Poor is registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with registration no: CAC/IT/NO:132541.

Mission/Vision

The Home of Refuge for the Poor seeks to put God’s love into action. To establish homes for the aged, rehabilitation centers for the internally displaced persons, and victims of insurgency. We are committed to caring for the human community through spiritual, physical, and psychological empowerment, and development of the human person. To work as a catalyst in bringing sustainable change in the lives of the poorest of the poor people, and to uplift the dignity of the poorest in the society to the fullness of life.

It is our firm conviction that life is beyond who we are or what we do today, and we believe that the complete essence of our purpose is in the furtherance of a better humanity that would continue long after our mission.

Care and love are great human mandates that prevail over cultural differences and religion. Caring is both spiritual and human, it is a consciousness that connects and transforms humanity for the better. The ultimate good and welfare of others, and the rebirth of hope and joy in the eyes of the once hopeless; the eyes of the poor, and the priceless happiness in witnessing it; is what the home of refuge for the poor lives for.
